Peruvian ceramic Vicus Effigy Figure, glazed and decorated ceramic figure, 12 x 7.5 inches, The Vicus culture (Early Intermediate Period c.200BCE-800CE) centered in the Piura region of northwest Peru. It is famous due to being part of the Moche State which controlled the region from as reflected in the elaborate Moche artifacts and a royal Moche tomb of Loma Negra in the Piura River Valley. The northern Moche extended from the Jequetepeque River Valley to the Vicus region of the Piura River Valley . The southern Moche extended from the Chicama Valley to the Moche Valley. Its still being debated if the Moche were a confederation of separate or multi-valley “city state.”
