Wofford, Philip (American, 1935-2023), Acoma-Drum, 1968, oil on shaped and stretched canvas, signed, titled, and dated on the verso. Shaped canvas 34.5 x 25 inches. Philip Wofford was a prominent member of the Lyrical Abstraction movement of the 1960s and 70s. His work has been exhibited at several prominent institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art, The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the San Francisco Museum of Art; the Houston Museum of Contemporary Art; The Fogg Museum, Harvard University, Cambridge; and Yale University, New Haven. He is represented in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh; the RISD Museum, Providence; the Weatherspoon Art Museum, Greensboro; and the Hood Museum of Art, Dartmouth, Hanover, among others.
