Merrill, Phillip (American/Philadelphia, 20th century), The Blind Beggars, 1951, oil on canvas, since laid down on board, signed and dated lower right, 20 x 24 inches, in a wood frame 25.5 x 29.5 inches. A powerful mid-century painting showing the influence of magical realism and surrealism. The artist was the Director of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, Harrisburg, PA, in the 1970s.
