Smith, George A., The Laurelled Chefs d'Oeuvre d'Art of the Paris Exhibition and Salon… complete in 5 Volumes, 1889, Portfolio Edition, Gebbie and Co., Philadelphia, loose sheets in wraps and cloth portfolios, folio (17.25 x 12.5 inches), each volume with full page photogravures after famous paintings of the day, plus in-text illustrations (called "Typogravures" here). Originally issued with 100 photogravures, this set likely missing around 15-20%. Includes work by Assmus, Bayard, Jules Breton, Frederick Church, Jacques L. David, E. Detaille, E. Fonatana, Elizabeth Gardner, J. L. Gerome, D. Ridgway Knight, Edwin Long, Jean Millet, Gustav Richter and many others.
