Simboli, Raymond (Ray) S. (Italian/American/Pittsburgh, 1894-1964), Pair of Landscape Paintings: Riverside with Bridge and Forest Edge, both 1916, oil on board, signed with initials and dated lower left, 10 x 13.25 inches and uniformly framed 13.5 x 17 inches. Forest Edge with the signature of a previous owner H. L. Cusic WAB Co. (Westinghouse Air Brake) on the verso. Simboli, who was only 22 when he painted these, studied at Carnegie Tech under Arthur Watson Sparks, was in 5 versions of the Carnegie International, was a member of the Associated Artist of Pittsburgh (AAP) and had a 1965 retrospective at the Westmoreland Museum of Art.
Both in generally good condition with a layer of surface dirt; some early crazing; Forest Edge with loss at the upper right corner.
