Gignoux, Regis (French/American, Hudson River School, 1816-1882), Brook in Woods Diablerets Switzerland, c.1875, watercolor on paper, signed bottom right, 9.75 x 14.25 inches, mounted to a larger piece of board, unframed. Title taken from Gignoux's own notebook where he recorded all of his works and sales -- this one with his inventory number 54 on the reverse. The Diablerets mountain range in the Alps was a popular subject for Gignoux after he returned to his native France in 1870. Provenance: From the estate of Arthur B. de Saint Maurice, the great-grandson of Regis Gignoux.
