Marc, Robert (French, 1943-1993), Untitled (9738), undated, c.1975-1980, oil on canvas, signed lower center, 43.5 x 17.75 inches, in a wood frame 51.5 x 25.5 inches. The authenticity of this work was kindly confirmed for Sotheby's by Annie Fromentin-Sangnier, the widow of the artist and author of a forthcoming catalogue raisonne. Provenance: Estate of the artist; Hotel Drouot auction, Paris, November 17, 1987, lot 86; Forum Gallery, New York (with label on reverse); Barry Friedman Ltd., New York; Private Collection; Sotheby's NYC auction, June 2020, Cubism and Beyond, lot 8; Private Collection, Western Pennsylvania.
In good condition with a light layer of surface dirt; a slender, vertical brown accretion at lower center. Under UV light no inpainting is apparent.
