Smith, Russel (Scottish/American/Pennsylvania, 1812-1896), Loch Leven from Ballachulish Marine, 1852-1879, initialed and dated at lower right. Rear signature visible through canvas cutout window. Canvas 12 x 18 inches, in a 18 x 2.25 inch new gilt frame. Provenance: Conway’s Vintage Treasures, sale September 4, 2013.
Craquelure throughout. Restored: partially lined. In painting as follows: to the right of the main boat lower right there is a 2-3” tear repair that has been touched up. Below the boat is a very small tear repair and touch up. There area bout 5-6 small touch up spots in the cloud area. But overall, no more than 2-3% in painting throughout the painting.
