Twiggs, Russell Gould (American/Pittsburgh, 1898-1991), Attack, 1955, oil on board, signed and dated lower right, titled on the verso, 24 x 36 inches, unframed. Twiggs was on the faculty at Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon University) and was a founding member of Group A, the collective of Pittsburgh abstract painters that also included Samuel Rosenberg, Balcomb Greene and Robert Lepper. Provenance: The personal collection of Edward J. Grzybowski. Ed was co-owner of Tri-State Antiques in Canonsburg. He was well known and respected in the field for his vast knowledge of antiques and decorative arts, particularly 20th century design.
Condition
In fair condition, with a section of paint missing in the direct center; also with a layer of surface grim and small areas of loss at and around the corners.
