Housed in matching cloth slipcase. Kate Reed was the husband of James Hay Reed, a personal friend and close advisor to Andrew Carnegie who started the law firm that is now known as Reed Smith. Kate and James' son, David Aiken Reed represented Pennsylvania in the United States Senate from 1922 to 1935. Provenance: Katherine Jones Aiken Reed; then by descent through the family; the estate of Barbara Frazer Lowe, Sewickley PA. In Fair to Good condition, front outer hinge dry and starting to show separation, but for now still securely attached; small scuff to leather on front board, spine faded and scratched, clean contents.
