Nolan, Sidney (illustrator), Ern Malley (aka James McAuley and Harold Stewart) (text), The Darkening Ecliptic, briefly inscribed and signed by Nolan to Leon Arkus on the copyright page in blue ink, 1974, hardcover, first edition thus, 12.5 x 9.75 inches, published by Alistair McAlpine. Leon Arkus was the director of the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, in the 1970s. Ern Malley turned out to be one of the great literary hoaxes: he was made up by two Australian poets, James McAuley and Harold Stewart, who were intent on proving that modern poetry was a sham. Good in a Good dust jacket: light bumping to the corners of the boards, spine and spine ends; otherwise a tight, clean copy. The DJ faded and lightly worn along the spine, some general edgewear, shelfwear and handling, nothing major. Merchandise will be packed and transported by the purchaser at their own risk and expense.
