Nolan, Sidney (illustrator), Ern Malley (aka James McAuley and Harold Stewart) (text), The Darkening Ecliptic, briefly inscribed and signed by Nolan to Leon Arkus on the copyright page in blue ink, 1974, hardcover, first edition thus, 12.5 x 9.75 inches, published by Alistair McAlpine. Leon Arkus was the director of the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, in the 1970s. Ern Malley turned out to be one of the great literary hoaxes: he was made up by two Australian poets, James McAuley and Harold Stewart, who were intent on proving that modern poetry was a sham.
