Nelson, George, Charles Eames, Alexander Girard, et al., The Herman Miller Collection Showroom Catalog, title page dated 1955, updated price list at front "effective April 1, 1956," Herman Miller Furniture Company, Zeeland, MI, hardcover, oatmeal cloth boards with screenprinted logo, metal ring binding, approximately 140 pages plus 19 page price list, illustrated throughout. Provenance: Hende-Jon Furniture Showrooms, Pittsburgh, PA, a furniture and design store that specialized in what's now called Mid Century Modern (they are listed as a showroom on the title page of this book!). From the Eames website, "The third and final hardback Herman Miller catalog was released in 1955, sporting double inverted Herman Miller logos in orange and yellow atop a beautiful cover of textured canvas. The catalog was released to some fanfare, with marketing adverts depicting its launch and availability appearing alongside those of the products themselves. Building on the success of the 1952 hardback release, this version would see a near 30% increase in page and product numbers with designs from George Nelson generally dominating. As one would expect of the year, the Eames designs to feature include the fiberglass molded side and arm, Compact Sofa and wire chairs. The catalog begins with a beautifully written foreword from George Nelson and is well organized into furniture type categories (a move away from the ‘by designer’ sections of the previous catalogs)."
