Rowlands, Tom (American/Western PA, 1926-1991), Untitled Cubist Abstract, 1953, oil on Masonite panel, signed and dated lower right, 27.5 x 26 inches, in period linen lined wood frame 30.75 x 29.25. A modernist painter and designer, Tom Rowlands studied at Parsons School of Design, the Art Students League, Cooper Union, The New School for Social Research, and in Florence, Italy (Belle Arte). He was artist-in-residence at the Westmoreland Museum of American Art. Rowlands exhibited at the Carnegie International in Pittsburgh, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, The Westmoreland Museum of American Art, the Ward-Nasse Gallery in Boston, Judi Rotenberg Gallery, among others.
Slight accumulation of surface dirt, one small spot of paint loss at upper left, light craquelure throughout three areas. Frame with some chipped areas, repaired to lower right corner.
