Rowlands, Tom (American/Western PA, 1926-1991), Untitled (Swedish Putty), 1962, oil and mixed media on canvas, 18 x 28 inches, signed and dated Rowlands 62 lower right, Provenance: The Estate of Harry Grant, Pittsburgh, Pa. sold to benefit The Pittsburgh Foundation. Rowlands was a queer modernist artist who was artist in residence at The Westmoreland Museum of American Art in 1960. He remained for two years in charge of the museum’s studio art classes. Rowlands received the Golden Anniversary Medal Award for outstanding work in any medium from AAP for his abstract oil Fog Burning Off, and had a solo exhibition at The Westmoreland.
