Danton, in the style of Ferdinand (American, 1877-1939), Trompe L'oeil Money Painting showing three bills that were only made in 1886, a 2 dollar Silver Certificate with the portrait of Winfield Scott Hancock and Rosecrans signature, the back of an 1886 One Dollar Bill (known as The Martha, for a portrait of Martha Washington on the front) and an 1886 5 dollar Silver Certificate, undated, c.1910, oil on canvas, signed indistinctly lower center, possibly R. Duncan (which has a strong similarity to F. Danton) , 8 x 10 inches, in a period ornate composite and wood gilt frame 17 x 18.5 inches, and 4 inches deep, with original stretcher and tacking, has not been relined. Provenance: Brunk Auctions, 1/8/11, lot 153. Ferdinand Danton was a talented painter who used his skills to back a career as a forger of early American art.

Condition
