DeVita, Thom (American/New York, 1932-2018), Two works on paper, digital photo print on paper with rubber stamped self portrait in fedora, rubber stamped Gotham Tattoo Velvet Touch 1978, along with additional rubber stamped images in ink, embossed with DeVita Portfolio 2002 seal at lower right, signed lower left in red, 12 x 18 inches, unframed. Thom's iconic sword and snake tattoo flash stamped in ink, along with original art, approved, initialed T.D. at lower right in pencil, for use in the portfolio book Thom deVita: deVita Unauthorized, 17.5 x 12 inches, unframed. Thom deVita was a revolutionary tattoo artist, whose apartment in the lower east side of NYC was among the earliest custom tattoo shops in existence, beginning at a time when tattooing was banned in New York City. His designs, vision, skill, and techniques ushered in a new era for tattoo artists. Provenance: from the estate of the pioneering tattoo artist, fine artist, and sculptor Nick Bubash, Pittsburgh, PA.
