Barbault, Jean, and Montagu, Domenico, et al., Nouveau Recueil de Vues des Principales Eglises, Places, rues et Palais de Rome moderne et des plus beaux monuments de Rome ancienne, 1776, Bouchard et Gravier, Rome, hardcover, folio, 21 x 16 inches, mid 19th century leather backed boards, title page in black and red with engraved vignette, plus 61 double-page engraved plates, mostly after Barbault, and engraved primarily by Domenico Montagu and Freicenet, as well as Giovanni Brun, Giraud, Cassini, Barbazza and Carloni, captions in French and Italian, plates not numbered. The plates are tipped-in to stubs, as issued, and printed on laid paper, most with large watermark showing ornamental shield with tailed figure (lion?) in center. All of these contributors were contemporaries with Piranesi, and some even collaborated with him for other editions.
Condition
In good condition, richly inked and well preserved, only a few plates with small tears or stains to the margins.
