Wall, William Coventry (British/American/Western PA, 1810-1886), View of Fort Duquesne, July, 1755, The Evening of Braddock’s Defeat, painted in 1857, oil on canvas, relined, signed and dated lower left, 25 x 45 inches, in a period gilded frame measuring 35 x 55.5 inches. Includes a photo of the title, painter's name and date that was written on the verso before the relining. Provenance: Gerald Peters, Santa Fe, NM; A Western Pennsylvania corporate collection. Exhibited: Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art, Loretto, PA, 1998-1999, Wall to Wall to Wall. An extremely rare 19th century treatment of the French and Indian War by one of the leading Scalp Level artists in Western Pennsylvania. The Heinz History Center / Historical Society of Western PA has a similar view of the same subject in their permanent collection.
