Le Brun, after Elisabeth Vigee (French, 1755-1842), Self Portrait at the Easel, late 19th or early 20th century, after the original of 1790, oil on canvas, laid down on a backing board, unsigned, board 41.5 x 34.75, in an ornate and exquisite gold painted carved wood frame 53.5 x 46.5 inches. Provenance: Private collection, Pittsburgh, PA; Wunderly Galleries, Pittsburgh, PA. A lovely copy of this double portrait, showing the artist at work painting a portrait of her Queen, Marie Antoinette. The original painting hangs in the Uffizi, Florence, Italy.

Condition

Canvas has been laid down on a backing board, otherwise in good condition with a thin layer of surface dust; few small, faint accretions in the figure's neck and ruffle; old repairs along the extreme edges.
