Riquer, Alexander de (Catalan/Spanish, 1856-1920), Ex-Libris, 1903, one of only 10 copies on special paper. Includes a total of 63 original bookplates. 62 of them are tipped-in; the other, for Comte de Casa Davolos, is a large engraved plate toward the front of the book; also with a lovely hand-colored title page illustration. This copy is lacking the last tipped-in bookplate, which Riquer designed for himself. Hardcover, green cloth 10.75 x 8 inches. Colophon mentions published by J. Thomas, Barcelona; spine shows Williams and Norgate [London] imprint. French text, including introductions by de Riquer and Miquel Utrillo. A remarkable and rare collection of pre-Raphaelite inspired modernistic designs by this Catalan master of the bookplate. Despite the limitation statement, this copy does not appear to be signed. In good condition, light wear to the binding, including fraying at the spine ends and corners; light foxing throughout; bookplate of the former owner affixed to front blank.
