Russell, Alfred (American/ St. Louis, 1868-1927), Hunter with Two Dogs, early 20th century, oil on canvas, signed lower left, 14 x 17 inches, in a wood frame 19.5 x 22.5 inches. Pencil signature and fragment of newspaper obituary on the reverse. Alfred Russell was a self-taught artist who worked as Art Editor for the St. Louis Globe-Democrat newspaper. Much of his work appeared on calendars and other advertising for the Western Ammunition Company (aka Western Cartridge Company). He was a member of the St. Louis Art Guild and the St. Louis Art League.
In generally good condition apart from two repairs with inpainting in the grass between the dogs and the signature, some slackness in canvas.
