Matthews, Ben (American/Pittsburgh, contemporary), Peace Grease - Anger Inhibitive Cooking Oil, undated, oil on canvas, signed lower right, 40 x 30 inches. Steve says: Ben Matthews’ artwork caught my eye in New York at O.K. Harris gallery before I ever met him. We have shown his tongue in cheek circus paintings several times, once even accompanied by a sword swallower, a belly dancer, a fire breather and Phat Man Dee who sang with her fist down her throat! Ben left his New York career and concentrated on Pittsburgh where he still paints, plays guitar and has a home in Munhall. His subjects range from The Piano Player with Four Arms, Dog Devouring Fleas, Gods Mouth in a Jar and the Sex Idol with Five Penises. Ben also explores Gothic Imagery and paints atmospheric Pittsburgh scenes.
