Tryon, Dwight William (American, 1849-1925), Tonalist Landscape at Night, possibly titled Late October, 1887, oil on wood panel, signed and dated lower left, the words "Late Octo" discernable on the verso by an unknown hand, panel 13.5 x 10.5 inches, in a gold painted frame 20.25 x 16.75 inches. Provenance: A Western PA private collection; two heavily discolored labels on the back of the frame. One of Tryon's famous tonalist landscapes, influenced by the Barbizon School. He showed in the Carnegie Internationals in Pittsburgh in 1896 and 1898-1900, winning one of the main prizes in both 1898 and 1899.

Condition

In good condition, with light, vertical crazing throughout that is stable; UV light reveals touching up in the lower center, as well as most of the sky area.
