Sickler, Edward E. (American/Indiana, d.1904), Still Life with Violin and Books, 1898, signed and dated lower right, 9.5 x 13.5 inches, in a gold painted wood frame 14 x 18 inches. Little is known about the artist, but he did show in the Third Annual Exhibition of the Society of Western Artists in the Detroit Museum of Art in 1898. Provenance: The personal collection of Gary S. Grimes, Pittsburgh. Gary was an expert on Western Pennsylvania art, and especially the Scalp Level painters. In seemingly good condition, unexamined outside of the frame.
