Gray, Eileen (Irish, 1878-1976), Tapis [Carpet], 1929, collotype and pochoir on paper, plate 22 from the book "Tapis et Tissus," edited by Sonia Delaunay and published by Charles Moreau in Paris, image measures 6.25 x 10.75 inches, the full sheet 12.75 x 9.75 inches, professionally matted 12 x 16 inches, unframed. "Tapis et Tissus" was issued as number 15 in Charles Moreau's legendary l'Art International d'Aujour d'Hui series that showcased the cutting edge decorative designs of the time. The illustrated portfolios, and especially the pochoir pieces that were featured in color, were used to showcase everything in haute couture from carpets and fabrics to interior design. Gray, who would gain immense fame as an architect and furniture designer, began her career as a Modernist decorative and interior designer.
