Xiang, Fang (Chinese, b. 1967), Untitled Courtyard with Cat, watercolor and ink on paper, signed in characters at left with artist's chopmark. Matted, behind ultraviolet light filtering plexiglass, and in a highly detailed gilt frame featuring figures amongst foliage and structures. Frame 49.5 x 52 inches. Fang Xiang was born in 1967 in Guangdong Province of China. He graduated from the Chinese Paintings Department at Guangzhou Fine Arts Academy in 1988. Fang is a painter of the Chinese Fine Arts Research Institution, a member of the Chinese Artists Association, and the director of the Chinese Drawing Association. Fang won second place in the Ninth Nationwide Art Exhibition for his Chinese Painting. He also won the excellence award at the First Nationwide Landscape Paintings Exhibition. He was involved in major exhibitions, such as the Century Chinese Paintings Exhibition, and the Biannual Shanghai Arts Exhibition. Xiang has had his individual exhibitions in London, Bangkok, Melbourne, Singapore, and major cities in China and the US He has published more than thirty albums of his works, including The Direction of Contemporary Chinese Artists.
