Grosz, George (German, 1893-1959), Ecce Homo, 1923, first edition, Der Malik Verlag, Berlin, softcover, 14.25 x 10.75 inches, original wraps, repaired spine, Ausgabe C, complete with 16 color plates (after the original watercolors) on heavy wove paper and 84 black and white lithographic illustrations on thinner wove paper, former owner's pencil signature dated 1926 on fly leaf, and gift inscription in ink from the same owner but dated 1946, New York, on title page (names appear to be Dr. Gid L- and Kossell). Grosz's most famous work, a caricature of post World War I German decadence.

Condition

In overall good condition: plates and illustrations are clean and unmarked; newer spine with repair; tape shadows to front and rear blanks; covers stained and faded; chipping to edges of the wraps.
