Nakashima, George (Japanese/American, 1905-1990), Half Oval Walnut Slab Desk suspended from cantilevered free edge double wall cabinet with four sliding doors, a special and rare Nakashima configuration, ordered from Nakashima by Paul Planert for Tygart Steel, McKeesport Pa. Desk features an asymmetrical, joined-slab top with a beveled edge and highly-figured grain mounted atop a case with dovetail joinery and two hanging cabinets. Also includes a freestanding 2 drawer side floor cabinet. Sold with a copy of the original receipt from Nakashima Studios. Individual component dimensions: Wall Cabinet - 14.75 x 150 x 15.5 inches / Desk - 29.5 x 30 x 61 inches / Freestanding Cabinet - 21 x 15.5 x 15.5 inches.

Condition

In generally good condition, desk with discoloration along one edge, and a 6-inch surface crack developing on the opposite edge; cabinet with few shallow chips and losses along the free edge, remnants of old blue house paint on the left side, and a few extra holes from previous installations visible under the desk top.
