Zaage, Herman (American, 1927-2008), 7 prints for The Unconscious Victorious, 1965, block prints on thin handmade paper, each signed, titled, dated and marked Artist's Proof in pencil to lower margin, sheet sizes mostly 18 x 17 inches or slightly taller, all unframed. These images were made for the book The Unconscious Victorious by Stanley Berne, published by George Wittenborn for their Archives of Modern Literature Series. In the book, the prints were reproduced in facsimile in a much smaller format. These are early works by Zaage, combining text and imagery. Herman Zaage was born in Jersey City and studied in WPA workshops in the 1940s, eventually working closely with printmaker John Ross.
