Baldwin, John (Jack) (American/Athens, Ohio, 1922-1987), Peirithous (Seated Cubist Figure), cast bronze, 8 x 7 x 6 inches, cast impression signature letter B with 2-6 (edition 2/6) and copyright symbol, on a black laminate base. Provenance: from the personal collection of Pearl Fox, owner of the Pearl Fox Gallery, Philadelphia, PA. Fox represented Baldwin for many years. In the early years Baldwin exhibited lithographs, paintings and sculptures. Later exhibits were entirely sculpture. He had at least thirty-six one person exhibits, two exhibits with his wife, painter Ruth Baldwin, and forty-five competitive group exhibits. His book, Contemporary Sculpture Techniques, was published in 1967 by Reinhold. While continuing to create art, Baldwin taught sculpture from 1956 until his death in 1987 at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio.
