A rare, large-scale lithograph made after a painting by Pittsburgh-based artist Trevor McClurg. Lithograph drawn by Fabronius, printed by Endicott and Co., New York, and published by W. J. Holland, Springfield, MA. A powerful scene, showing a Union soldier returning to his family after the Civil War. The details in the print - map behind the door, patterned rug, portrait of George Washington above the mantle, the books, table setting, etc. - are exquisite. Provenance: The Old Print Shop, New York. the personal collection of Gary S. Grimes, Pittsburgh. Gary was an expert on Western Pennsylvania art, and especially the Scalp Level painters.
In seemingly good condition, unexamined outside of the frame. The caption at the bottom (From the original picture in the possession of James Parke Jr., Esq.) has been rubbed out; repaired tears visible at the upper margin; some other restorations likely.
