Bodebender, Laura (American/New Orleans, b.1900), Portrait of a Woman with Dog and Child, undated, c.1930s, oil on canvas, relined, signed on the right edge, 24.5 x 19.75 inches, in a newer painted wood frame 29 x 25 inches. Very little information is available about the artist, including her date of death. Bodebender studied at the University of Chicago and the Art Students League in New York before spending six years painting in Italy. She had a one-woman show in New Orleans in 1936. Most of her other paintings to appear at auction have also been portraits. Provenance: The personal collection of Gary S. Grimes, Pittsburgh. Gary was an expert on Western Pennsylvania art, and especially the Scalp Level painters. Relined; otherwise in good condition.
