Hetzel, Lila Barr (American/Western PA, 1873-1967), 3 original pen and ink drawings, all on cream colored paper: Still Life With Skull and Wine Bottle, undated, signed lower right, 10 x 15 inches; Portrait of a Soldier, undated, signed lower right, 14.5 x 9 inches, partial note on the verso references School of Design, Pittsburgh; Portrait of a Model, 1897, signed, dated and titled lower right, 14.5 x 11 inches. All unframed. The two undated pieces are c.1895. A rare group of early drawings. The Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, has 23 similar pen and ink drawings from this time period in their permanent collection. Provenance: gift from the artist to a close family friend. Lila Hetzel was born in Edgewood, Pittsburgh, and was the daughter of George Hetzel who founded the Scalp Level School.
In fair condition, all with general age toning and staining, and also with chipping, creasing and losses along the edges; the Still Life with Skull has a puncture right in the middle of the skull.
