Bemelmans, Ludwig (Austrian/American, 1898-1962), Will you go in first, Miss Madeline - the original illustration for Madeline and the Bad Hat, c.1955-56, ink, pencil, gouache and watercolor on wove paper, signed lower right, image within a 14.5 x 18 inch border, full sheet 18.75 x 22 inches, framed 24 x 26 inches. Reproduced on page 41 of the first edition. Provenance: Hammer Galleries, NYC, original label affixed to the backing board. Includes a hardcover copy of the book in dust jacket.
In good condition, showing only a handful of tiny, barely noticeable spots to the blank areas; light mat burn; edges of the sheet stained from old tape hinges.
