Phillips, M. E. (American/Chicago, 20th century), Untitled Mid Century Modern Abstract, 1946-1956, mixed media on artist's board, signed on the mat in pencil, stamped Institute of Chicago on verso, with 632 N. Dearborn St address, image 8 x 5.5 inches, unframed, includes original mat but no longer attached. The Institute of Design at the Illinois Institute of Technology (also known as New Bauhaus - American School of Design, The School of Design in Chicago and The Institute of Design) was at the 632 N. Dearborn address from 1946-1956. The school was founded in 1937 by Laszlo Moholy-Nagy. Serge Ivan Chermayeff was the director from 1946-1951. Provenance: collection of Robert Hagenhofer, a graphic designer who attended the Chicago Institute of Design in the late 1940s following a stint as a soldier in World War II.

Condition
