Possoz, Mily (Portuguese/Lisbon/Paris, 1889-1967) Young Girls with a Parasol II, c. 1930, drypoint in colors on wove paper, signed and numbered in pencil 13 of 75, 16.5 x 13 inches, in a painted wood frame and hand painted mat 26 x 22 inches. Mily Possoz was a Portuguese artist known for portraiture and figural paintings, and was of the first generation of Portuguese modernist artists. She left Portugal to continue her education in Paris, and later became an active member and the only female partner of the society Jeune Gravure Contemporaine (Young Contemporary Engraving), which staged annual shows and was influential in keeping the spirit of printmaking alive. Her work can be found in the National Gallery of London, the Cleveland Museum, the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon, the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Lisbon, among others.
