Redout� is celebrated for his watercolors of roses and lilies under his patronage of Empress Josephine Bonaparte and botanists of the time. Many of his watercolors were published as color stipple engravings. Often referred to as the Raphael of Flowers, he is one of the most prominent botanical illustrators of the 19th century.
