Petscheider, Robert (Austrian-American, 1881-1965), The Alchemist, after the painting by David Teniers the Younger, carved basswood, 28.5 x 37.5 x 5 (approximate depth) inches, incised with signature Robert lower right, framed in a shadow box measuring 37.5 x 47.5 inches. This was commissioned by Fisher Scientific for their famous collection of images of Alchemical paintings and prints. The company used the collection to market their scientific products to laboratories all over the world.
