Piranesi, Giovanni Battista (Italian, 1720-1778), Veduta del Mausoleo d'Elio Adriano (ora chiamato Castello S. Angelo) nella parte opposta alla Facciata dentro al Castello [Rear View of the Mausoleum of Hadrian], mid to late 18th century, etching, impression 17 x 21.75 inches, matted and framed 28.5 x 34.5 inches. A single plate from Vedute di Roma [Views of Rome], Piranesi's famous work, first printed in the late 1740s, showing Roman buildings, ruins and monuments, primarily marketed to European visitors on the Grand Tour. Provenance: from the collection of a retired librarian of art and architecture at Columbia University.
