Piranesi, Giovanni Battista (Italian, 1720-1778), Obelisco Egizio [Egyptian Obelisk erected by Pope Sixtus V], mid to late 18th century, etching on laid paper, , impression 21.25 x 16 inches, full sheet 24.75 x 19.25 inches, unframed. A single plate from Vedute di Roma [Views of Rome], Piranesi's famous work, first printed in the late 1740s, showing Roman buildings, ruins and monuments, primarily marketed to European visitors on the Grand Tour. Provenance: from the collection of a retired librarian of art and architecture at Columbia University.

Condition

In good antique condition, soft horizontal crease down the center, light staining in the margins; the sheet appears to have undergone a professional reduction of discoloration at some point.
