Piranesi, Giovanni Battista (Italian, 1720-1778), Veduta dell' Anfiteatro Flavio, detto il Colosseo [View of the Flavian Amphitheatre, known as the Colosseum], c.1757, etching on heavy wove paper, impression 17.25 x 27.75 inches, full sheet 20.25 x 30 inches, unframed. A single plate from Vedute di Roma, Piranesi's famous mid-18th century work showing Roman buildings, ruins and monuments. Provenance: from the collection of a retired librarian of art and architecture at Columbia University.
In good condition, light staining to the margins, few tiny specks of surface wear; the sheet appears to have undergone a professional reduction of discoloration at some point.
