A 17th century style Indo-Portuguese Contador chest/desk on frame. Later manufacture, 20th century. Highly carved skirt depicting an angel against scrolling foliate background. Bulbous elements on each leg above barley twists and stretchers. Resting on bun feet. The cabinet, which rests on the base, includes a pull-out desk with a green leather writing pad, two drawers, and a center cubby. Reticulated brass escutcheons on the drawer faces, functioning locks, brass pierced side elements. Rippled molding details. Apparently unsigned/unmarked. 62.5 x 38 x 22 inches.
In overall good condition. Some missing screws on the escutcheons on the side panels. Cracks in the bulbous elements on the legs. Old repairs of chipped sections along the bottom edge of the sides.
