Trouville (France), watercolor on paper, 1876, 9.25 x 16.75 inches, matted and framed 16.5 x 23.5 inches, Trouville is a small village in the Normandy region. // 2. Spring in Normandy, watercolor on paper, 1880, signed lower center, 9.75 x 14.75 inches, unframed. // 3. Cottage in the French Countryside, c.1875, watercolor on paper, signed lower right, 6.75 x 10 inches, matted and framed 16 x 19 inches. Titles and dates of #s 1 and 2 taken from Gignoux's own notebook where he recorded all of his works and sales -- these with his inventory numbers 102 and 89, respectively, on the reverse. The French countryside was a popular subject for Gignoux after he left America in 1870 to return to his native country.
