Gignoux, Regis (French/American, Hudson River School, 1816-1882), Les Diablerets Switzerland Mountainscape, c.1880, watercolor on paper, signed bottom right, 17.5 x 11.5 inches, matted and framed 25.5 x 18.5 inches. Title taken from Gignoux's own notebook where he recorded all of his works and sales -- this one with his inventory number 1 on the reverse. Les Diablerets is an ice covered mountain range in the Alps. Painted in the last few years of Gignoux's life, following his return to his native France in 1870. Provenance: From the estate of Arthur B. de Saint Maurice, the great-grandson of Regis Gignoux.
