Gignoux, Regis (French/American, Hudson River School, 1816-1882), Adam and Eve, mid 19th century, marble, 9 x 7 inches in a black frame measuring 14.5 x 12.5 inches. Title and medium taken from Gignoux's own notebook where he recorded all of his works and sales -- this one with his inventory number 210 on the reverse. A rare and unusual piece, and one of the few examples of Gignoux's work outside of painting. Provenance: From the estate of Arthur B. de Saint Maurice, the great-grandson of Regis Gignoux.
