Gignoux, Regis (French/American, Hudson River School, 1816-1882), Southern France Snow Peaks, c.1875, watercolor on paper, signed bottom right, 14.75 x 21.5 inches, mounted to larger sheet, unframed. Title taken from Gignoux's own notebook where he recorded all of his works and sales -- this one with his inventory number 141 on the reverse. The Alps were a popular subject for Gignoux after his return to his native France in 1870. Provenance: From the estate of Arthur B. de Saint Maurice, the great-grandson of Regis Gignoux.
