Gignoux, Regis (French/American, Hudson River School, 1816-1882), Niagara Rapids, oil on canvas, c.1855, unsigned, 13 x 14.75 inches in a black wood frame 16 x 18 inches. Title attributed from Gignoux's own notebook where he recorded all of his works and sales -- this one with his inventory number 282 on the reverse. Image shows a solitary figure on a bridge overlooking a raging river downstream from Niagara Falls. Provenance: From the estate of Arthur B. de Saint Maurice, the great-grandson of Regis Gignoux.
