Gignoux, Regis (French/American, Hudson River School, 1816-1882), Lot of 3 seascape paintings in France, all unframed: 1. St. Jean Mediterranean, c.1875, watercolor on paper, signed bottom right, 9.75 x 13 inches, mounted to a larger piece of board. The subject is likely what's now known as Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, a small village in southeastern France. // 2. Dinard Brittany, 1876, watercolor on paper, signed lower right and titled on the mount, 10.25 x 14 inches, mounted to larger sheet. // 3. Port and Cliffs Normandy, 1878, watercolor on paper, signed and dated on the mount, 11 x 15 inches, mounted to larger sheet. Titles taken from Gignoux's own notebook where he recorded all of his works and sales -- these with his inventory numbers 157, 74 and 105, respectively on the reverse. The coasts of France were popular subjects for Gignoux following his return to his native country in 1870. Provenance: From the estate of Arthur B. de Saint Maurice, the great-grandson of Regis Gignoux.
