Pharamond Fontainebleau, c.1875, watercolor on paper, signed and titled bottom right, 15 x 11 inches, mounted to a larger piece of board. // 2. Study of a Tree in Fontainebleau Forest, 1878, watercolor on paper, signed and dated on the mount, 11 x 15 inches, mounted to larger sheet. // 3. Fontainebleau Forest, 1877, watercolor on paper, signed lower left and titled and dated on the mount, 10.5 x 14.5 inches, mounted to larger sheet. The titles are taken from Gignoux's own notebook where he recorded all of his works and sales -- these works with his inventory numbers 81, 99 and 87, respectively, on the reverse. Le Pharamond is a famous oak tree in the Fontainebleau forest south of Paris. Provenance: From the estate of Arthur B. de Saint Maurice, the great-grandson of Regis Gignoux.
