Louisjuste, Seresier (Haitian/Croix-des-Bouquets, b.1952), Bird Tree, mid 20th century, recycled oil drum cut steel sculpture, incised signature at bottom. 11 x 22.75 inches. The Louisjuste brothers – Seresier, Janvier, and Joseph – were born in Croix-des-Bouquets, Haiti. They studied cut metal art making from the originator of Haitian metal art, Georges Liautaud, and were instrumental in passing it on to the next generation of Croix-des-Bouquets metal artists. Provenance: From the estate of Leon A. Arkus, former Director of the Carnegie Museum of Art. Acquired in 1974, Britson Galleries, Pittsburgh, PA.
